Panel on Campus Carry – ASA Program Committee

On June 1, 2015, Governor of Texas Greg Abbott signed into law S.B. 11, also known as the “campus carry” law. The issue of guns in the culture at large is not a new one, and the gun control debate has been further stoked by #blacklivesmatter and the occupation of a federal building by ranchers in Oregon. In short, this panel will address the issue of “campus carry” by bringing together scholars for a conversation about activism on their own campuses and scholarship in American Studies on education, guns and government.
